Follow the Road to Kentucky Derby 2017 here! Horses will once again qualify for the Kentucky Derby by earning points in selected graded stakes races around the world. Graded earnings will be used as a tiebreaker.
For Kentucky Derby 2017, Churchill Downs has partnered with the Japan Racing Association (JRA) to create a Japanese Road to the Kentucky Derby. This series includes two one-mile graded dirt stakes at Tokyo Racecourse, the Cattleya Sho for 2-year-olds and the Hyacinth for 3-year-olds.
Fillies must qualify in the same races as males if they are pointing for the Kentucky Derby. There is a separate point system for the Road to the Kentucky Oaks.
