2010 Eclipse Awards - the Morning Line

I'm a fan
My Favorite
While every Tom, Dick, and Harriet is publishing their Eclipse Award ballots this time of year, I have decided to put a little different spin on things. A decidedly horse racing centric spin that is. The following represents my personal assessment on each horse’s chances to take home an Eclipse Award. Many of the divisions are cut and dry, but the odds serve to further illustrate margins of victory, as well as place, and show finishes.

2-year-old male
Uncle Mo 1-10
Boys of Toscanova 50-1
To Honor and Serve 60-1
Comma to the Top 60-1

2-year-old female
Awesome Feather 1-5
Turbulent Descent 30-1
Dancinginherdreams 40-1
Kathmanblu 40-1
More Than Real 50-1

3-year-old male
Lookin at Lucky 3-10
Eskendereya 25-1
Sidney’s Candy 50-1
Paddy O’Prado 50-1

3-year-old female
Blind Luck 3-10
Havre de Grace 30-1
Evening Jewel 30-1
Devil May Care 30-1

Turf male
Gio Ponti 4-5
Paddy O’Prado 5-2
Winchester 8-1
Dangerous Midge 30-1

Turf female
Goldikova 3-5
Proviso 4-1
Tuscan Evening 8-1
Shared Account 50-1

Older male
Blame 1-10
Quality Road 40-1
Haynesfield 50-1
Richard’s Kid 50-1

Older female
Zenyatta 1-100
Unrivaled Belle 100-1
Life At Ten 100-1

Female sprinter
Dubai Majesty 1-2
Switch 8-1
Champagne D’Oro 10-1
Fanny Freud 30-1

Male sprinter
Big Drama 4-5
Majesticperfection 5-2
Discreetly Mine 10-1
Smiling Tiger 25-1

Horse of the Year
Zenyatta 3-5
Blame 9-5
Goldikova 50-1

Please remember these odds only represent what I believe will happen in the voting. For the most part, I think the voters will get it right. My personal selections differ in only one division, that being the Turf Male, where I choose Paddy O’ Prado. As far as who will actually win, you only need to look at the favorite in each division. Those will be your champions … you can bet on it.

What the Nation is saying about 2010 Eclipse Awards - the Morning Line ...

i HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH THE ZENYATTA BEAUTIFUL CAMPAIGN UNTIL THE CLASSIC SHE DIDNT RACE AGAINST ONE GRADE 1 HORSE AND DID THE SAME THING THEY HAVE DONE EVERY YR TALK A BIG GAME AND THEN STAY AT HOME WHICH IS FINE THEY GOT THE RECORD BROKE FOR MOST CONSECTUTIVE WINS AND I GUESS IF hoy MEANS FAN FAVORITE AND YOUR SUPPOSE TO OVERLOOK REAL PERFORMANCE AND STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE THEN SHES A LOCK FOR THOSE OF US THAT DONT BASE HOY ON LAST 3YRS AND BASE IT ON HORSE OF 2010 ONLY THEN I SEE 3 HORSES BETTER THAN HER BLAME GOLDIKOVA AND BLIND LUCK ALL THREE TOOK ON THE BEST ALL YEAR LONG
That was great.......Didn't finish what I started to say. "Powers to be"-why in the world do they now have two special awards; one to team Z and one to Claiborne. I understand the "special award" is not usually given so why now? I think it diminishes the Eclipse Awards to give such an award when it seems to be a way to keep everyone happy. Or, do they already know the winner of Horse of the Year? It just seems rather strange-guess that they can do as they please since they have no guidelines.
I already said I love your favorites. What concerns me now is the "powers to be
Zenyatta deserves HOTY, this year, she had a beauful campaign this year.
  • LDP · If Zenyatta deserves it Blame deserves it more. He also had one heck of a campaigne this year, beating the two biggest names in training. Including Zenyatta. · 504 days ago ·

The test of a first rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function. * F. Scott Fitzgerald, "Handle With Care", Esquire Magazine (March 1936).
What do you want action on, Christine? LOL
go to bet fair
Where can I place my bets!!!!!
Most think the functioning history of the thoroughbred "goes all the way back to Secretariat...." What a joke for a breed that has been racing since Wheatherby's General Stud book of 1793
Tiznow, you can't block me ... I'm the author! ;-)
Can you create a block option like fb? I think I have found a reason for it.
I hope I am wrong
Not necessarily ... Claiborne and Marylou Whitney earned Eclipse Awards of Merit for lifetime achievements in Thoroughbred racing.
by CONTEXT that cofirms that the Claiborne colt has it wrapped up....Like kissing your sister
This just in ... In recognition of the good will the connections of Zenyatta built in campaigning their multiple champion for three seasons, the individuals surrounding Zenyatta'scare and management—including owners Jerry and Ann Moss, trainer John Shirreffs, racing manager Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, and jockey Mike Smith—will receive a Special Eclipse Award as Team Zenyatta, via Thoroughbred Times.
I think that I would vote Goldikova Horse of the year over both Blame and Zenyatta easy, She embarrasses any other horse running today.
Greatest three year old campaign ever? You are in dire need of a history lesson
  • dubby30 · There is not 1 year by any filly age of 3 that can be compared to that of Rachel, and only a handful of males that can be compared to her and that campaign. Curlin Compares, Big Brown not close, Afleet alex and Smarty not close, Bernardini compares, keep going back further no filly is even able to be mentioned in the last 30 years lol. There has to be a history lesson in there for you. · 504 days ago ·

The odds are not on a race, but rather on their chances of winning an award. The Zenyatta fans say the award is fixed in favor of the East Coast horses. Now you are saying it is fixed for her? I think you give the voters too much credit in their conspiracy abilities. She won the BC Ladies Classic easy in '08, she won the BC Classic easy in '09, and she came within inches of winning another BC Classic this year and a 20 for 20 lifetime record. I really can not fathom calling Zenyatta an undeserving horse.
  • LDP · I do not think she is undeserving. I didn't think she was undeserving last year, or in 08 for that matter. However, I do believe that in each of those years, including this one, there was always 1 horse that was more deserving. · 504 days ago ·

  • dubby30 · LDP- I agree that she is ever so deserving and she will get her just due with the Hall of Fame, unfortunately the award is more about the connections and the ambitiousness or lack thereof of the Moss's, that laughed at Horse racing and the history involved with "my horsie is faster than yours" and "the best beats the best" and replaced it with "we're chasing Pepper's Pride" and "we are targeting 1 race" thats not horse racing to me, that to me is not even close to what champions of years past did. I do find it interesting that in a 20 race career there are the 08BCLC, 09 BC and 2010 BC that we are left to discuss, most horses run in races of significance from January - Dec. That would have been too much to ask of her according to Moss and Sheriffs, with that being said the human aspect of the HOY award goes to Mr. Hancock, Al Stall and Blame for putting it on the line in the Step Fost, Whitney, JCGC and BCC. There is nothing that can be said about the Santa Margarita, Apple Blossom, Vanity CLHirsch and LS that can trump that except maybe give it to her because she's "Dappled and she Dances". Im just saying. · 504 days ago ·

Humphrey, that is not what I said, now is it? The greatest 3yo filly campaign ever is what I said, and I stand behind that. You will also be wrong about Zenyatta not being Horse of the Year in 2010, as it seems you are wrong about most everything you have written to me. As far as the history lesson, I would gladly put my knowledge of American racing history in entireity against yours at any time. Just because you say things rudely, does not make your comments any more intelligent.
Long ago, Fort Marcy came west and got the crap kicked out of him....Did it change the vote for Horse of the Year? Nope the Eastern horse with the legendary trainer garnered it. BUT it took Cougar going East and bearing their best to allow Ack Ack the same title.
