HRN Original Blog:
Zipse At The Track

I will get by, I will Showvive

In a most unlikely turn, Santa Anita Park and The Grateful Dead have collided today on ZATT. Do yourself a favor and throw a little Dead on the stereo, sit back, and start handicapping The Great Race Place's long weekend of racing ... for the Showvivor begins tomorrow!

Must be getting early

PPs are looking blurry

Cheap speed on the rail

Looks so phony

Dawn is breaking everywhere

Horses working here and there

Six is scratched, I don't care

‘cause it's alright

I will get by

I will get by

I will get by

I will showvive

I see you've got your picks out

Say your piece and get out

Yes I get the gist of it

but it's alright

Sorry that you went that way

It’s the horse I cannot play

‘cause all my picks have a

Touch of Grey

I will get by

I will get by

I will get by

I will showvive

It's a lesson to me

The Affirmeds and the Beldames and the Cigars

The ABC's we all must face

To try to win or place

It's a lesson to me

The Dahlias and the Easy Goer and the Foregos

The ABC's of the break from the gate

Trying not to rally too late

I know the Xpressbet account is in arrears

The dog has not been fed in years

It's even worse than it appears

but it's all right

Jockeys riding with a lean

Can't read the Form at seventeen

The words he knows are all obscene

but it's all right

I will get by

I will get by

I will get by

I will showvive

Blinkers on the horse it fits

There's really nothing much to it

Baffert’s one won’t spit the bit

‘cause it's all right

Oh well a Touch of Grey

Kind of suits my picks anyway

That was all I had to play

It's all right

I will get by

I will get by

I will get by

I will showvive

We will get by

We will get by

We will get by

We will showvive

We will get by

We will get by

We will get by

We will showvive

Both my sincere thanks and apologies go out to Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia for what you just read. ~Brian Zipse

Meet Brian Zipse

Brian has been a passionate fan of horse racing his entire life. Taken to the races at a very young age, he has been lucky enough to see all the greats in person from Secretariat, Forego, and Ruffian through Rachel Alexandra, Zenyatta, and American Pharoah. Before coming to the Nation, Brian displayed his love for the sport through the development of his horse racing website, which quickly became one of the most popular blogs in the game.

The Editor of Horse Racing Nation from 2010-2017, Brian authored a daily column as Zipse at the Track, or ZATT for short, and added his editorial flare to the overall content of the website. Now a Senior Writer for HRN, Brian continues to contribute his thoughts on racing, as well as co-hosting the popular racing show, HorseCenter. A big supporter of thoroughbred aftercare, he serves as the President of The Exceller Fund.

Brian's work has also been published on several leading industry sites. He has consulted for leading contest site Derby Wars, is both a Hall of Fame and NTRA poll voter, and is a Vox Populi committee member.
