Behind the Scenes with Dullahan - Kentucky Derby 2012

Once again, another early but GREAT morning on the backside at Churchill Downs. My previous post about only one horse being on the grounds - we can scratch that and now officially say the backside is starting to heat up. This afternoon Bodemeister, Secret Circle and Sabercat will ship to Churchill from Hot Springs.

While I was getting this video of Dullahan I completely missed Daddy Nose Best working out on the track. (rookie mistake) However, the buzz after his work on the track was something to note. I heard several horseman talking about how good he looked and how "he's a solid horse." I'll try and catch a look at him tomorrow morning, along with Bodemeister, Secret Circle, and Sabercat. If the weather holds off, I'll also try to sneak over to Trackside and catch Hansen (without a blue tail)

Here is the video of Dullahan from this morning:

What the Nation is saying about Behind the Scenes with Dullahan - Kentucky Derby 2012...

read an intersting article in The Racing Post as regards srtifical surfaces, specifically the aritlce was about a course called New Leighs...."it is common for an atificall track to take a year or two to "bed in" or acclimate to its final packing where the track usually becomes faster as the surface is not as deep.
Gorgeous horse. Strong, strong, strong!!!
And Into the turn they come for the 138th stretch run and Bodemeister Take Charge Indy and Hansen turn for home and Gemologist! around the outside to take a short lead, and down the stretch they come, Gemologist, Take Charge Indy fighting back and Dullahan gaining down the center of the track. Gemologist fighting on Dullahan gaining.....Gemologist, Dullahan and Kent Desoromeaux has captured his 4th Kentucky Derby Aboard DULLAHAN in a dramatic finish at 2:01:4 Gemologist a nose second a photo between Daddy Knows best and Take Charge Indy, Then Alpha, Bodemeister and I'll Have Another. And Oh will I have another!!!
Dullahan's 1:47.94 is by far the fastest Blue Grass time since the installation of Polytrack in 2006. However, Round Table and Skip Away hold the fastest times for the race, ~1:47.4, established on the original dirt surface. As travelvic noted, Hansen provided the internal fractions on Saturday. .4
Nothing like seeing the stars up close and personal!
track records usually requirea set up pace....Hansen provided that
Dullahand set a TRACK RECORD IN THE BLUE GRASS
hansen did not need the race,as well as union ragsthese horse will perform when thee time is wright and all of them front runners will callapse dullahand will be the best closer in the derby
Love Race Day. Hope to take Ashley there someday.

Meet Kevin Kerstein

Long story short, I took the long road getting involved in the industry. I did not get into horse racing until 2008 when I came to Louisville for college.

I'm originally from outside of Philadelphia and attend college at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. Since I was 15 I was involved with working in radio and TV. I first covered horse racing at the 2011 Kentucky Derby and my passion just continues to grow. Let the early mornings begin and the Derby fever heat up as we hit the backside to get the exclusive stories leading up to the first Saturday in May.
