Analysis: After a luckless run in the Filly & Mare Turf last year, The Fugue will return to Santa Anita in a bid to set the record straight, but this time she’s in line to take on the boys in the Breeders’ Cup Turf. The Fugue ran an extremely promising race on her seasonal debut in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and, though she disappointed in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown (scoped dirty), she has looked better than ever on her last two starts, improving to land a pair of Group 1s inside the space of three weeks. An authoritative display in the Yorkshire Oaks was swiftly followed by a career-best performance in the Irish Champion Stakes, looming up under a confident ride from William Buick to challenge 1f out and driven out to win readily from Al Kazeem. In the Breeders' Cup Turf, The Fugue's chances will depend much on the run of the race and the splits she gets as she tries to work her way through.

*Timeform Master Ratings are adjusted for age, so that equal ratings mean horses of equal merit. Another way of looking at it is to see the universal rating handicap as four handicaps side by side: one for two-year-olds, one for three-year -olds, one for four-year-olds and one for older horses.
**In TimeformUS past performances, neither the Timeform Performance Ratings nor the TimeformUS Speed Figures are adjusted for age.
