A Pick 6 Single and a Top Play from Santa Anita Thursday

Santa Anita, Race 6:

Two horses in this race interest us as Pick 6 additions at nice odds:

Bornatthetrack (8-1 ML) is a three-year old son of Bernardini who gets a splendid TimeformUS Pedigree Rating of 93 for dirt routes and makes his second dirt-route attempt today, off a seven-month layoff. In the race that sent him to the shelf, he made an eye-catching wide run around the far turn and earned a decent TimeformUS speed figure of 86. Today, he takes the blinkers off (a move we almost always like), keeps Joe Talamo (another move we almost always like), and figures to be a price (which we always like).

TimeformUS PPs for Bornatthetrack

His trainer, Thomas Bell, has mediocre trainer stats, but we don't care. Bell is a good trainer who does the job when he has horses to work with. We'll start worrying about his stats when he has more runners to work with.

Bornatthetrack has been training very well for this race, and we think he's worth including on Pick 6 tickets.

Expo and Fig (15-1 ML) makes his second start today. In his debut, a Poly sprint at Del Mar, he got away poorly and then put in a solid run while wide, earning a speed figure of 88, which is not all that out of place in here. His breeding is nothing to talk about, but his trainer is. Philip D'Amato is the highly capable top assistant to Mike Mitchell. He's a trainer who makes the most out of what he gets. He watched Expo and Fig debut in a maiden claiming sprint, and then decided to jump him up to a maiden special weight and stretch him out in distance. We like that. We also like the way Expo and Fig has been training for this race. He is another horse we think is worth including on Pick 6 tickets.

Santa Anita, Race 8 (Pick 6 Single):

The scratch (off the A/E list) of Angel's Moon, who figured to be a powerful contender, leaves us thinking that Make More Money is the best single for this carryover-fattened Pick 6.

In her first race in CA, she broke slowly, rushed up on the backstretch, and put in a wide, impressive run around the far turn, on her way to earning a field-best last-out speed figure of 73 for Jeff Mullins. Mullins has since gotten two strong workouts out of her at Santa Anita in preparation for the switch from Poly back to real dirt. This will be her second start for the Mullins barn, and Mullins gets an outstanding TFUS Trainer Rating of 93 with horses making their second start for him. Make More Money is our single.
