I do not understand why the 3 year old went to Arrogate instead of Nyquist. Nyquist had a better record.

  • Pebbles via Disqus · It is hard to figure out Eclipse voters. There is no doubt that Arrogate demonstrated himself as the best 3 year old of the class of 2016. Since there are no explicit criteria for the award, sometimes the voting goes for the best horse, and sometimes it goes for the horse with the best campaign. I thought Caleb's Posse made a good case for the award in 2011, but it went to Animal Kingdom based upon his Debry win, Spiral Stakes win, and runner-up performance in the Preakness Stakes. · 5 hours ago
Very disappointed in the bottom third to half of this field. There just aren't enough quality handicap horses to support a race with entry fees of this magnitude. The back of the pack would be just as well to enter some of the racing mules from the California fair circuit.

  • Liam via Disqus · This isn't a handicap race, it for 3 year olds and above. Too many horses retired or out of competition right now. · 4 days ago
  • pointgiven23 via Disqus · I believe the owners of each slot in the race will be making a good profit (in excess of 1 million each) regardless of purse money for their horse. It will be interesting to see how much money 12th place gets and so on after all wagering is accounted for. This will be important to know going forward for those that wish to pre-purchase slots of owners that don't have a contender to win. · 1 hour ago
As an exercise rider over 60 years ago, Art Sherman came to Gulfstream Park in a train with Swaps. The California Comet set a track and world record for the mile and 70 in the Broward Handicap. Now the 79 year old trainer is back at the same track, with a chance to see the finest horse he has trained, and one of the two best he has worked with, go out in style. Arrogate may win by daylight. Keen Ice may pull off the impossible and do it again. I'd like to see the two favorites blazing down the stretch, nose to nose, with the elder winning by inches. It would be another Beholder moment for the sport, and earn the two time Horse of the Year a colossal win in his last race. Most of all, I would like to see a victory for Art, who's biggest thrill as a jockey was when he beat his idol Eddie Arcaro. Alan Sherman, Raul Rodriguez and Dihigi Gladney have done nice work in keeping this six year old in good form. Hoping to see a safe trip for all, and a big smile from Victor Espinoza at the end.
Draw is today at 5! 12 horses with 3 AE's
How many colts does he have so far? And how do they look? If he was racing in 2014 TC races, he could have been the 2014 TC winner. Considering how he dominated both Bayern and Tonalist (the 2 horses that beat California Chrome multiple times) in 2015, one could argue that he could have done the same to Chrome.
Chrome will be flown to Kentucky on Sunday morning (after the Pegasus on Saturday) to begin his stud career per DRF Privman today. He has written both an article and a tweet. (The article is pay-to-read.) https://twitter.com/drfprivman?lang=en
I post Arrogate's time for the Pegasus may hit 146.76 just a guess anyway
In the 2016 Harlan's Holiday, Keen Ice (while carrying low weight) gave another confirmation of the weak 2016 BCC field. All 4 2016 BCC runners (Keen Ice, Hoppertunity, Effinex and War Story) were beaten by multiple lengths in their next respective graded stakes races after the BCC.

  • Pebbles via Disqus · I do not think that 2016 had a weak BCC field at all. It certainly was stronger than the 2015 field. Chrome was the only winner from that field... What happened to the next start for the horses there in the 2015 field? Effinex won the Clark, Hoppertunity and Keen Ice a pretty close 2nd and 3rd. Tonalist won the Cigar Mile Hard Aces finished back in the San Pasquale Keen Ice finished up the track in the Donn Handicap Frosted won the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2. I still think that 2016 had a stronger field. · 2 hours ago
One thing to keep in mind.... Chrome has destroyed all of American Pharaoh's adversaries... some multiple times. Would American Pharaoh have won facing Shared Belief, Bayern , Arrogate, Beholder or even Tonalist on any given day? My point is that Chrome has faced the absolute toughest competition throughout his career possible... and he is still on top. How many horses does Baffert have to throw at him? Cheers to Chrome winning the Pegasus... for if he does the title will be well earned!

  • Pebbles via Disqus · Chrome has beaten all of American Pharoah's adversaries. I do not know about destroyed. Chrome won by what a neck over Dortmund in the San Diego. But he has done well against a number of them... Dortmund 3rd in Kentucky Derby, 4th Preakness Stakes San Diego 2nd Pacific Classic 3rd Awesome Again 2nd Keen Ice Travers winner, 4th BC Classic, 2nd in Haskell, 3rd in Belmont Stakes, 7th Kentucky Derby 7th Dubai World Cup 3rd BC Classic Mubtaahij 8th Kentucky Derby, 4th Belmont Stakes 2nd Dubai World Cup Tonalist, 5th 2015 BC Clasic Tonalist won Belmont Stakes over Chrome 5th BC 2014 Classic Effinex, 2nd 2015 BC Classic 6th 2016 BC Calssic · 2 hours ago
Will be streamed on NBC Sports or NBC?
Uf, McCracken vs Irish War Cry. Will be nice race.
Semper Fortis will replace Ralis for Reddam Racing.
Been saying it since day 1 that Arrogate and Chrome won't finish 1-2 in this race. Arrogate, Keen Ice, Chrome, Shaman Ghost
Let us be very clear here...all this talk about Chrome been great is just media hype! California Chrome is not a great horse, he is very good and running well but not a great horse or legend. When it comes to winning excellent G1 races he fails against the big guns...for example he got beat in G1 races by Tamarando, Tonalist, Bayern, Prince Bishop, and Arrogate ...not to mention Shared Belief in G2. Has far as I am concern the only great G1 horse he beat was the female Beholder. The other horses that he beat was mediocre, such as Mubtaahij and Opportunity. Now when it comes to Arrogate...well it took him some time to develop into the great horse he is and he has clearly demonstrated it when he step up to run against excellent G1 caliber thoroughbreds. He not only beat quality G1 horses...he did it in extraordinary time with exceptional beyer speed figure! So who do you say is great now ...surly you are not looking at the amount of races a horse wins...Good luck in your wagering !!

  • sczen50 · I never have or ever will compare or look at earnings of a horse! That's just ridiculous..it's all relative!~ Beyers? I don't go by them either..never have proved anything. There's other better speed factors. They don't ever take into account how wide the horse went or how he won. Or track conditions;or which track itself. Who is Great now? Not Arrogate & not Chrome but he's closer. By the way you have your facts wrong..yes Chromie lost to SB but also beat him out, too. Lost to some of the horses you named at 2..bad 2 yr old year-quite a few have had that. And he lost to Bayern while still injured-after that injury-yes he was better but still. He didn't beat anybody good? Arro did, huh? LOL!!! You haven't kept up w/ his record huh...many consider Songbird pretty good and Beholder very very good! He smoked Beholder & some others. Anyway... no-neither are great! That's who's great now...but Both are very good! That's already been proven. · 1 day ago
  • Christy Dolan via Disqus · Not to mention the English horse Toast of New York fairing better than him in the Classic .Yikes ! His loss in Dubai 2015 against nothing horses damaged his reputation a bit. Prince Bishop? An ex turf horse ,oh lord. Last year ,for the first time in years the Dubai WC had credible American horses in it. Cc did revive his reputation in tje manner that he won,and being out for so long was impressive. Takes a brave man to state what you said. I agree the hype has been nauseating at times, especially claims from people who were not even born about comparisons to other horses. But his story has been good to follow · 18 hours ago
This horse is going to be in the Derby, the 7f was training, from the outside took charge ran very fast openings and was hand ridden out, pulling away. Speed in pedigree but also has year older half sister winning stakes at 1m 1/16
I'm a big fan of Arrogate, and if the race were being run at the classic distance of 10f my money would be on him to win the Pegasus too. But, since they've opted to run this race at 9f instead of 10f, I'm afraid that favors Chrome more than it favors Arrogate, because he clearly has more speed on the front end. If you look back at the replay of this year's BC Classic, it was a monster effort by Arrogate to defeat Chrome that day at Santa Anita. But Arrogate also needed every inch of that 10f distance to do it. Hypothetically speaking, if the BC Classic were ran at 9f instead of 10f, Chrome romps home the clear winner that day. I'm afraid the shorter trip is in Chrome's favor in my very humble opinion.

  • slewcrew7778 · This seems like a common misconception that many people have. I agree with a recent Brisnet article which stated - "No two races are necessarily run alike and the way the Pegasus World Cup unfolds could in part be determined by the post draw for both protagonists as well as the other 10 horses in the field. However, much of California Chrome’s appeal from the betting public’s perspective will obviously be based on what they witnessed through the first nine furlongs of the Breeders’ Cup Classic. The first 1 1/8 miles of the Classic saw California Chrome at the height of his powers, running freely and comparably to his displays in the Pacific Classic (G1) and Awesome Again (G1), both of which turned out to be emphatic victories. With a furlong to go in the 10-furlong test, California Chrome was still ahead of Arrogate by 1 1/2 lengths and appeared unlikely to be run down...there’s still enough reasons to believe Arrogate is the better horse and will prove so again on the opposite side of the country, even at the shorter distance." Neither Baffert of Smith is concerned about Arrogate's speed, and for good reason. He's shown plenty of early speed before. And he can catch Chrome at Chrome's top speed at any point in the race even if he gets off a step or two slower. · 23 hours ago
  • Christy Dolan via Disqus · For a betting perspective this is a race one would be better off not punting. Due to the draw, Arrogate had to travel more yards than CC and had a nice weight allowance for a 3 year old. Arrogate seems to be more of a galloper with stamina but a nice cruising pace. Not sure he has a turn of foot like CC. Think one might have to question the quality of the other three year olds this year ,even the Kentucky Derby winner who was a champion at 2. Chrome gassed out and maybe idled well before the line at the BC. Smith was canny,he never really asked Arrogate any hard question until he was right up with CC and change the whip to his right. By then CC 's jockey was already hard at work. What CC has in his advatage tactics wise is things will be done a little differently next time . Have to say 9 furlongs (or nine and a half) is pure idotic stuff for any global group 1 race that wants to be taken seriously.why 9? The track? If so ,go to San Antia with it · 18 hours ago

why do they have gun runner on this list, I thought connections opted not to have him in the race
  • DarthKoalaBear via Disqus · They also still have Ralis on this list, and he's out, too. · 5 hours ago
Congrats to Arrogate and the Arroheads on the their champion three year old Eclipse win!
Congrats to Chrome and his connections and fans for the win. 4 Eclispe Awards is some nice icing on the cake for the champion.
