In the second edition of New York's Kentucky Derby 2014 Contenders list lets take a look at the six newest additions and some recent morning workouts. Since the first list came out in December of 2013, a several horses have created a buzz, which has put them on the Contenders List.

The Jerome was run at Aqueduct and Noble Moon became the first contender to earn Road to the Kentucky Derby points in 2014. Watch the replay.

Horses that appear on the list for the first time:

Commissioner won his second race in a row defeating the highly regarded Top Billing in an OC75/NW1 allowance race at Gulfstream Park. The race earned high Beyer Speed Figures for both of the horses.

Constitution is an unraced Todd Pletcher trainee who was entered to run in race 8 at Gulfstream on January 4th. He was scratched in favor of a horse from the same owners. They opted to send Constitution to breeze the next morning at Palm Meadows.

Cool Samurai broke his maiden at Santa Anita going a mile. He made his first start for John Shirreffs at Belmont Park finishing second to Wicked Strong and then shipped to the west for the winter with Shirreffs.

Ria Antonia is back in training after her win by disqualification in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. Her owners are still looking at the Kentucky Derby and a campaign against the boys.

Uncle Sigh destroyed a field of New York-breds to break his maiden at Aqueduct for trainer Gary Contessa. He has two of the highest Beyer Speed Figures from this list of contenders.

Unknown Road broke his maiden at the Fair Grounds by 11¾ lengths. He made his first start at Aqueduct for Mike Hushion, but now is in the barn of Al Stall Jr.

Older Comments about New York’s 2014 Kentucky Derby Contenders II...

Mosler nominated Tampa Derby .
Wicked Strong wants longer, he stays for me.
YOu suggest best Derby hoepful ONE THEY ALL PASS THE 9 FURLONG test not until then
Does Unknown Road, Coup de Grace and Wicked Strong get kicked off the list, or do they stay? Commissioner is one damn tough colt - he's gotta be - he beat Top Billing. Commissioner might be Todd Pletcher's best KY Derby hopeful, in my opinion.
Commissioner!
oh my... Mosler sure has the pedigree to go the distance.
I'd put Uncle Sigh up against anyone in the empire state right now.
Commissioner has similar tenacity as Revolutionary.
The tenacious running style of Commissioner reminds me of Revolutionary (3rd in '13 Derby). That is, similar conformation. Look forward to Unknown Road's next start, but Mom earned her keep as a sprinter. Shared Belief may make it to CD on the 1st Saturday in May, but not to the Winners' Circle.
Shared Belief will be there!
No problem. Excited to see him next out !
1/2 to Test winner Contested. Mare is 1/2 Pomeroy. First Breeze back on Sunday. Bill Mott.
rubs23 -- I just the replay of Mosler's maiden win and he was impressive. That War Front colt cost $1,050,000 at KEESEPT12.
rubs23 -- Thanks for the heads up on Mosler. I will check him out!
For once I like the Winstar farm horses.
Mosler broke his maiden at Belmont. He should be on this list . He will be soon enough . Just breezed at Payson .
adding Commissioner to the Derby list
I think last week's allowance race at Gulfstream will turn out to be a key race ... Top Billing and Commissioner should both make noise this spring.
