Secretariat, Eddie Maple, Ron Turcotte, Jacinto Vasquez - October 28th

Jockey Jacinto Vasquez had his 4,000th career winner, aboard Sunshine Of My Life, at Aqueduct. ~1983

Secretariat won the 1 1/16 Laurel Futurity by 8 lengths, with a final time of 1:42 4/5. 7 wins from 8 starts ~1972

Laffit Pincay Jr., the world's winningest rider, gained his 9,000th career victory aboard Chichim in the $150,000 California Cup Distaff at Santa Anita Park. ~2000

Secretariat's last race was against older horses in the Canadian International Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack in Torronto, Canada.  It was the second time in his career that he raced on grass and the first time he was asked to go one and five-eighths miles (just a furlong farther than he'd already run twice that year). Secretariat won with another impressive performance. Ron Turcotte was out with a five-day suspension, so Eddie Maple rode Secretariat to a 6 1/2 length victory. ~1973
