This Date in History

Seattle Slew - July 3rd

Instead of giving Seattle Slew a rest, his connections decided to send him to Hollywood Park to compete in the Swaps Stakes.  Slew could not keep up with rival T.O. Tobin, tired badly in the stretch, finishing 16 lengths back in fourth.  Slew was sidelined for nearly a year after this race, but still won Eclipse honors for 3yo Champion and HOTY. ~1977
