Wedding Ring and Emirates Flyer take trials for Godolphin

Charlie Appleby continued his domination of Meydan as Wedding Ring's UAE 1,000 Guineas Trial victory provided the latter part of his second double in as many weeks.

Sent off as the well-backed 5/4 favourite, Wedding Ring came wide off the pace into the stretch and momentarily looked as though she would be well held by Mike de Kock's Magrooma. However, in the final stages of the race Wedding Ring began to respond to every urging of Mikael Barzalona to get up for a one-and-a-quarter length victory with Magrooma settling for second place.

Wedding Ring and Magrooma both look to renew their new rivalry in the UAE 1,000 Guineas on February 6th, with Magrooma surely open to significant improvement off of this run when taking into account De Kock's comments on how his South African imports are behind compared to the rest of his string.

The blue silks of Godolphin were in the winner's enclosure again after the UAE 2,000 Guineas trial as Emirates Flyer provided Saeed bin Suroor with victory over the late-flying Safety Check.

Emirates Flyer's victory has been spoken about in some quarters as a strong boost for the form of Kingman, who outclassed the Godolphin colt at Sandown in the summer, but whilst that reputation will have to wait to be franked, it is Emirates Flyer who will now look to go on towards the UAE 2,000 Guineas itself on February 13th.

In the newly created Dubawi Stakes, United Color proved to be the best of an eclectic bunch of sprinting stars. A new race for this season's Carnival, the Dubawi Stakes was rewarded with entries from the first three horses home in last season's Golden Shaheen.

However, it was last season's Golden Shaheen fifth-placed horse who responded to the determined urges of the Juddmonte-retained jockey James Doyle to comfortably hold his rivals.

The Golden Shaheen victor of last season, Reynaldothewizard, was well beaten in seventh.

Victories by Cat O' Mountain, Zain Shamardal and Sheikhzayedroad completed the undercard on the second night of the Dubai International Racing Carnival.
