Meet Chip Gehrke

Having grown up just a few miles from Arlington Park, I was lucky enough to be able to go to the races at a young age whenever I wanted to. My passion was forever cemented as I followed Alysheba’s every move during his racing career, and was one of his biggest fans. Other horses that drew me in were Manila, Great Communicator, and Lost Code. Many other horses since that time have touched me emotionally for one reason or another, and I even named my dog after one of them(Malek).

Growing up and actually working at Arlington at a young age, I kept every Daily Racing Form, Racing Times, and Bloodhorse stored in boxes that I still have to this day. I have been able to take my passion and knowledge to the radio as I co-host a local sport talk show where I make an effort to talk horseracing whenever I get the chance. That is also what inspired the name of this blog, as my radio moniker is "Dr. Derby", due to my racing knowledge and interests.

I have attended countless Kentucky Derby’s and Breeders Cups, as well as traveled to many other tracks across the country for numerous major races. I reside with my wife, daughter, and Great Pyrenees about an hour’s drive from Arlington, and with this blog, I hope to bring a new and fresh perspective on a variety of topics.
