Meet Chip Gehrke

Having grown up just a few miles from Arlington Park, I was lucky enough to be able to go to the races at a young age whenever I wanted to. My passion was forever cemented as I followed Alysheba’s every move during his racing career, and was one of his biggest fans. Some of my other favorites were Manila, Great Communicator, and Lost Code. Many other horses since that time have touched me emotionally for one reason or another, and I even named my dog after one of them(Malek).

Growing up and working at Arlington at a young age, I kept every Daily Racing Form, Racing Times, and Bloodhorse stored in boxes. I have been able to take my passion and knowledge to the radio as I am the on air racing expert and also fill in as a co-host on a local sports talk show where I make an effort to talk horse racing whenever I get the chance. That is also what inspired the name of this blog, as my radio moniker is "Dr. Derby", due to my racing knowledge and interest.

Having been all over the country at various racetracks either as a fan or covering racing for HRN, racing has been in my blood for as long as I can remember. As a member of the NTWAB (National Turf Writers and Broadcasters), one of the benefits of my membership is that I have the privilege of being a voter for the year end Eclipse Awards and Horse of the Year, something I take very seriously. I love reading what all fans have to say about the horses and the races. Horse racing is very lucky to have such a passionate fan base.
