2013 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies: Rio Antonia Wins in Marred Running

The Juvenile Fillies was supposed to be one of the most competitive of the Breeders Cup events. You had several talented individuals all lining up, rousing intense anticipation from racing fans across the country. But after the gates opened through the moment they crossed the finish, the race was marred.

She’s a Tiger put on a brilliant display of speed, opening up on Artemis Agrotera, taking the race to the rest of the speed from the word go. She set blistering splits, and as they turned for home a Calvary charge led by Ria Antonia came to hand. Sweet Reason and Rosalind were closing stoutly on the inside, but She’s a Tiger found another gear and held on bravely.

Sweet Reason flattened out, Rosalind ran out of time, but Ria Antonia was breathing down the favorite’s throat. She’s a Tiger drifted out, making marginal contact with Ria Antonia. When the crossed the line it was She’s a Tiger on top, but it wasn’t long before the inquiry sign lit up the board.

Several minutes later, it was announce that She’s a Tiger was Disqualified and placed second.

My initial reaction off the events of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies….The California Stewards, yet again, display their incompetence on the big stage. The contact was marginal at best, and had the race been run 10 more times at the same distance, She’s a Tiger still wins. Secondly, the track maintenance has failed immensely. The track is clearly unsafe and now has cost a promising young filly, with her whole career ahead, her life.

It was a brilliant race. A brave race. An exciting race. But I can’t help but feel put out as the day progresses. Hopefully the rest of the runners experience much safer trips.

Her former agent Billy Castle has his now bugjock Esquivel all up in Jacobsen’s barn. Who’s his journeyman? Manoel Cruz was MS’s mentor when she 1st landed here in Miami.
I lost track, did Ron Anderson, Angel et al ever manage to get the 1 jockey per agent rule in NY overturned? Maylan had several good years until this one, maybe a change of scenery in Miami. Or is she a terror on the Aqueduct Salt Flats? Who is her agent, anyway?
Mount is open,J.R.surely wont ride, and Javie has another in the race.
Let's *Go to Disneyland* {60's definition, Eisner ripped it off:)} Can you get Maylan the pick-up mount?
Snoop,on Thursday at Aqueduct in race 1. Todd is going mountain climbing in Switzerland, supposed very special prospect.
All sands are not created equal, I defer to t_v on jelly cord. >> thought Tony had thrown one away but he Cowboyed up in the clutch. Dez Bryant’s “"I didn't know anything about the helmet rule” leaves one wondering, “What else?”
The jockeys were complaining that the sand was stinging more than usual--several of them said it on camera.
Before the polytrack settled here and extra binding agnets were brought in over two major re-furbishing of the track, MOUNDS of kickback almost assured whomever got out of the gate first was there at the wire....THAT was kickback that jelly chord corrected.
QUOTE: t kept hearing about all the kickback of sand. What is that about?
QUOTE: that is for the talking heads, MOST OF WHON KNOW ZILCH about track maintenance, seraching desparately for a cause and effect where there was none!
Doubt Gary " gives a rats ass"
Gary can serve them in Tahiti :D
The days are a pretty much standard CYA move.
Doubt that DQ hurt many ,as much as it hurt me.But if i am looking at it objectively. It was a warranted take down. The other filly was by her the next jump. She came out and impeded. My only nock is that what i have been reading. That Stevens is getting days. His filly was spent, she was like a drunken sailor in the lane.Did they want him to pull her up?.But as much as it hurt,if i had it the other way, i woulda been ticked off if it stayed up.
Would there have been calls of bias if the roles were reversed and the West Coast filly got put up? Whatever, the way they called it is the way they’ve called it out west for a long time.
I'm not quite sure what to say, t_v.
Travel_Vic ^^ you're my nominee for *TYRO OF THE WEEK*
Churchill longer by about 100 feet
How can a MILE race track have a longer stretch than a mile and a half race track?
Churchill is not as sandy as Santa Anita or Belmont, and I believe it has the longest stretch of all three.

For as long as i can remember I have always loved horses and writing. The first race I ever watched was War Emblem's Preakness Stakes, but I didn't really start to get into racing until the next year where watched and cheered Empire Maker through the Derby, and yes, the Belmont.

I didn't begin writing until a few years later, when I created my own blog Horsin' Around. It didn't take long for me to realize that my niche was stirring the pot and creating heated debates, especially during the time of Big Brown vs Curlin and Rachel Alexandra vs Zenyatta. I was a Curlin and Rachel fan.

Now I am here under the name of Dead Heat Debates, and hoping to live up to that name. Have fun and let the opinions fly!
