Another question - not so much a debate, as I am not well versed on the subject, but am looking to be informed. Who was the greatest horse in North American racing, prior to Man O'War? I guess we are really talking from the end of the Civil War, when a lot of the present day NYRA stakes began, up to the end of WW 1. The only two that readily come to mind to me are Sysonby and Colin, but I have to assume there are others. It's kind of like debating the greatest pre Ty Cobb baseball player (although most people would agree that it was Cap Anson, the first to get 3,000 hits).
HORRIBLE conditions at Meydan today!!! I just really hope the world's best racehorse can overcome it.
If Arrogate wins impressively tomorrow, and then is retired to stud (I do not think out of the question, even if not likely), on just his four stakes victories, where would he rank amongst 21st century horses? I assume Frankel as #1 and American Pharoah as #2, so you can take it from there. But where would he rate compared to Zarkava? Curlin? Black Caviar? Sea the Stars? Rachel Alexandra? and of course (Ferrisjso's true love) - Zenyatta?

  • SharedBelief1 via Disqus · If He won the DWC and BCC, he would be tied for number 1 with Frankel in my book · 15 hours ago
  • Patricia King via Disqus · I do believe if Arrogate wins impressively the DWC and posts another BSF like he has posted in last 3 races of @ 120 he will do a great deal for his ranking of one of the best thoroughbreds in the 21st century IMO. While Ghostzapper may have popped a 128 at Monmouth, he did not put up consecutive high speed figures like Arrogates has done since the Travers. The weather could affect the speed numbers, but I believe it will also show how versatile Arrogate can be under different weather conditions. · 6 minutes ago
Much storm clouds, probably will start to thunder and it's raining a little bit now.
Arrogate should be a clear first, and Gun Runner a clear second. Although things don't always happen the way they should. Tough post for Hoppertunity, but he always finds a way to hit the super. I think Furia Cruzada and Move Up will run good races. With a bit of luck, they both get into the super. I'll throw Lani in the mix in a few tickets. I would've had Mubtaahij in there if it wasn't for the terrible post.
I'll be honest, Master Plan surprised me, I thought he was more of a turf horse, but he ran really really to finish 3rd. He looked like he was grinding at the end. Well done to Master Plan, curious if the connections go to the Derby or maybe try a race like the Belmont Stakes?
Nice win! Really hope the top 2 finishers come to Kentucky .
Well, he certainly didn't disgrace himself, I can be happy with third.
Happy Birthday Curlin. Folks tend to forget your accomplishments. As we all get ready to watch Dubai world cup let us not forget you won the Classic and then the world cup double
Happy 13th birthday Curlin! You are best in my book! May your stallion career continue to new heights!
With the Godolphin mile under our belts, it appears as if you can win off the pace. Second Summer getting it done in 1:35 and change.
Main Track: Muddy Turf Course: Yielding
Came up empty.
Wow!
Today Arrogate shows everyone how good is he :) It's real world cup now ;)
I wish a safe trip to all runners today!
Fitting tribute by Barbara Livingston to the Big Red horse. http://www.drf.com/manowar
t_v, Thanks for the reminder of his 1917 date of birth. I think this is his official page; the other is one of those alternative universe pages that occur on HRN occasionally.
Like I think Lani's overrated as hell but he should have better odds than 50-1. Also what is the deal with Special Fighter do his connections have a purpose for him other than to run the DWC? The horse hasn't ran since last years race and I don't think he was injured either, did they just go "wait till next year".
What happened to him working out this week?
